Okay so A Girl Adrift: Reunited genuinely caught me off guard — I downloaded it thinking it’d be a basic fishing sim and ended up losing track of time completely. The whole premise is you’re drifting through a world that’s been swallowed by water, fishing alongside this whale you rescue from a storm net, and somehow it hits way harder emotionally than it has any right to. The friendship between the girl and the whale sneaks up on you.
Fishing That Feels More Like a Daydream Than a Grind
The tap RPG fishing mechanic is genuinely its own thing — it’s not quite fishing, not quite an RPG, and somehow works as both. Discovering a fish species you’ve never seen before still gives this little dopamine hit every time. The music is something else too — AEYL MUSIC did the soundtrack and it has this soft, healing quality that makes you want to just… float. I had it on in the background while doing other stuff and it actually calmed me down.
I played the unlocked edition so I wasn’t hitting walls mid-session, which honestly let me stay in the vibe without interruption — the game’s atmosphere is fragile enough that forced stops would’ve killed it. One criticism though: the original A Girl Adrift came out a decade ago, and some of the UI choices feel a little dated compared to current sim games.
If you want something that feels genuinely chill without being boring, this delivers. The whale companion angle alone is worth it.
